the 8 best dessert places in nyc
The best desserts of New York City that are not overly sweet, or overly hyped. Here are 8 of the best places to get ice cream, cupcakes, cookies, and more in New York City.
west village / merveilleux / $$
You know a place is the real deal when they have another location in Paris, and the owner who greets you at the bakery is a cute old man with a very French accent. This French bakery specializes in light-as-air merveilleux (a unique meringue-like pastry) that come in several different flavors in a small or medium size. They also sell bread and other baked goods - their croissants are amazing!
various locations / cookies / $$
Believe the hype – these chocolate chip cookies are GOOD. They are also big enough for a meal, so I would suggest sharing one with someone or saving the other half for later. Make sure to eat them when they’re warm! The best flavor IMO is the dark chocolate with walnut - it’s actually the only one I’ve tasted but I can’t help it.
cupcakes
west village / $
They deserve the popularity that Sprinkles Cupcakes has, as they are far better (sorry…) It can be hard to come by a good cupcake. The cake could be too dry and the frosting could be overly stiff and sugary. Molly’s has the perfect balance and the most delicious flavors like pistachio rose, peach cobbler, and creme brulee.
chelsea / $
Tucked away on a busy area of 8th Avenue is this small bakery with an abundance of cupcakes, empanadas, and more. Although they are a Latin American bakery, their cupcakes (as well as everything else) are divine.
ice cream
chinatown / soft serve / $$
These decadent cones will more than satisfy your ice cream cravings. With various soft serve flavors to choose from like black sesame, matcha, vanilla, and strawberry, Taiyaki takes a simple concept and adds a custard-filled, fish-shaped, soft waffle cone, toppings like mochi, chocolate, fresh strawberries, and more!
